Ok, so I start the Focus RS and the revs jump to around 3k for say 20-25 seconds, then fall as if to settle at 900 or so, but dips just a bit low and tends to stall.

I start again and sometimes its fine, others I have to tweek the throttle as the revs fall then the car idles fine.

Any ideas? I have heard that resetting the ECU can solve this but wouldnt have a clue how.

Wouldn't you just disconnect the battery for 15 mins or so to reset the ECU?

yeah idelc control valve soudns like or possible MAF/MAP issues. More likely idel control... they just get gunked up. quick clean often solves the problem.

reseting the ECU disconect the battery for a good hour should do it.

ah sorry wasnt very clear there. i meant clean out the idle control valve.
Cant really clean MAFs, they just becoem defective.

I usually use wd40 to clean it out and a rag to wipe junk off depending on howmuch crap has accumulated

I'd tend to use carb cleaner first, then some WD40.

You should find the ISV nearish the throttle, with some hoses that bypass the throttle.
