ok heres your chance to get your say Folks.
What measures could be taken to help improve road safety??
Pro's... Con's... plausability factors...
For me its gotta be driver education as stated many times before as the big hitter.
pro's-- cheap, effective
con's-- i suppose once theyve learnt the skills not everyone would always utilise them..but at leats theyd be aware.
plausability-- People blat on about bad drivers but are rarely taking action to do anything.. if we could get people to want to actively take part in road safety schemes and education then its would work. getting them interested is the difficult bit. Thats where we (the younger drivers) come in. Theres a smarter way to drive!!
Your opinions and alternatives please..

MOTs, or at least some enforced regular safety check.
Pros - can take the worst of the sheds off the road
Cons - More expensive car maintenance for Joe Public (which he needs to spend anyway)
Plausability - works elsewhere, why not here

and loads of sly, tax free "good will" payments to me just for "not seeing things" !!!! i can go for this suggestion, lol
personally the roads would be safer if we banned blue saxo vts's (especially ones with white wheels, that keep breaking down ) and blue clio 182 sports (especially when in the vicinity of the aforementioned saxo.......
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers!!

I know it's an opportunity for cnuts to rip people off, but I think it would improve the general condition of cars on the road.
I know I've had a few cars that were downright dangerous.

A minimum speed limit would be useful.
Having to slow down from 70 to 30 mph is just as dangerous as having to slow down from 110 to 70!

Sorry but if you cannot slow to 30 mph except in a rush it is your driving that is at fault--many goods vehicles are limited to 40 mph --anyone towing a trailer is limited to 30 mph .A decent driver plans for this and there should be no "rush" about it. Tree is right extra driver training prepares you to deal with all driving conditions in a planned and professional way .

Learners being taught 'how' to drive not how to 'past there test'
As there has been a few deaths of drivers that have only past a few weeks maybe there needs to be some kind of advanced driving lessons once they are up to scratch on there driving to pass.
Like in england wen u get take the 'pass plus' and get cheaper insurance where this teaching the newly qualified driver how to drive on the motorways and at speeds over 30 mph.
Pro.........would teach new drivers how to 'drive' not pass there test
Cons.....they may ignore all advice and still drive like and R Plater
Plausible............the cost of one more lesson off a driving instruction which could be manitory before getting full licence

Sarah172 -- Yes you are right in this .The current test teaches you to pass a test ,then real driving happens . I would love to see some incentive to take further tuition, as too many young drivers are not living long enough to become experienced drivers .I will be talking to senior people over the next few weeks and hopefully the situation may get better.

I think it would help vastly if the DoT got their fingers out of their backsides and did what a real DoT are suppose to do. This involves better road conditions to drive on, the tt course is a good example, most of that is a reasonable road, near enough up to class with some B class roads across in England, so why can't we have that on the other roads?
Secondly, something which has been highlighted in the local paper a few weeks back, is the fact that the signage over here is S***e! The amount of roads over here where they have a 30 limit posted on a blind corner coming from a no limit area is unbelievable! Get a greasy road in on of those areas, with the driver having to break hard as to not break the law, and he'll be in the hedge, and probably told he was driving too fast.
Obviously, this wont be high a priority as better driver training!
