if its going on and off every so often sounds like the common saxo problem with the ECU being F**K!

Not doubting your expertise, but are you 100% on the wiring? ...typically Renaults ive seen operate a 'normally open' temp circuit, with a thremo switch (closed=bulb on)...and a sender unit (for the gauge- somtimes with a aux temp switch too)...
If the light is perm on then this suggests the sensor has failed NC, and cleaning the contacts with switch cleaner would prove nout...
Before you go dismantling the dials Id definatly check your thermo switch / sender unit..
    Keep us posted anyhow....
I reject your reality & substitute my own..

saxos and 106s. the management light could mena a rnage of things. But its recognizing a fault soemhwere. like Xlr8 said easiest is diagnostics.
Is the car displaying any symptoms?rough idle etc? could be a faulty sensor. Mine would come on occasionally at high revs and go off again. would always be perfectly fine.

as tree and xlr8 have said, if the engien light has come on it means the ecu has registered a fault somewhere. get it on a diagnostic machine and they can tell u exactly what is causing the light to come on

Yeah but leaving it an hoping it'll fix itself can also end in disaster - believe me, i speak from experience lol
