Don't forget the VATman though, you'll need to account for 20% on the price shipped to the UK, then the import duty which I think is around 10%. There may be a classic car import loophole which could save you some cash, worth lokking into!

Well finally got round to finding out a bit more about this.
So first off if the car you are importing to the Island is over 10years old is _DOESN'T_ have to have an SVA, all you need to do is put it through the regular import test. I spoke with one of the guys who do the test regarding things like the front amber 'sidelight/indicator' combo you tend find on US cars, not a problem. Covered a few other obscure SVA related bits, opaque brake fluid reservoir or warning light nope not needed.
With regard to the Tax, still to be confirmed but if you pay the Tax in the UK for any car over 30years its just 5% and 0% duty!
I now just need to take a trip down to the Sea Terminal to confirm exactly which US title documents are needed to register the car over here!

Good to see the taxman doesn't get his take!
Looking forward to seeing it when it arrives, in my experience the DoT take the paperwork you have and register what they like, for instance I must have the only saloon corvette in existence!
