Which was all fine, general service with a few extra bits like wiper fluid an all that little crap for £150 so altogether reasonable i'd say. however they quoted her for some work that needs / some they advise to be done shortly, an one of the things they said needed changing was the rear silencer cuz it's corroded and they quoted her £221 for this to be done, now to me that seems pretty damn expensive, but then i don't know exactly what the job entails an what exactly needs replacing so can anyone shed some light on what needs doing/changing etc an whether that price is expensive or normal

Oh an i've never really checked this out properly but she has a daewoo kalos sport an i think the person that had it before her put a big bore back box on but i can't say whether it is exactly cuz i've never seen another kalos sport's exhaust but it looks bigger than a general standard one an is quite loud too (for a car for my mum atleast)

£221 is fairly pricey- especially just for a back box, but if they are using genuine dealer parts it is possible it could be correct. Best bet would be to go to ATS & get a quote from them first..

That depends on the condition of the rest of the system & the type...some vehicles have a seperate backbox, but on some the backbox is one piece of the center section- or even right to the downpipe.

Oh piddlesticks, looks like i'll be taking her to see Bab, any other suggestions of places we could try that's cheap other than ATS or formula fast fit?
Don't want a cowboy botching it but i dont want her getting overcharged either

this may sound quite sexist but....

over here anyway if a girl is on her own they normally get over charged cose they dont really know the score with cars

best to take a lad who knows cars with you :)

very true mark! that annoys me to F**K how mechanics think they can get away with ripping women drivers off jus coz they think they know nothing about cars. I myself have just had an inncident in that respect but i am sorting it out now.

I think it's always best if ur a girl to either go with a mechanic or get ur car done by people u know and trust.
