I see the big topic in the news reccently is smoking in cars...

Do you think this should be banned (Specifically while driving).

Is this more dangerous than using a mobile phone?- You could always drop a mobile phone, you cant drop a cigarette. Does it also encourage people to discard of their butt's out of the window?

The most dangerous thing you can do is entertain these ridiculous ideas that these left wing do-gooders have. If people want to smoke in their cars they should be allowed to smoke, you can guarantee that if this balmy balmy idea somehow comes into fruition next on the list will be car stereos, then taking to your passenger as they both also take you mind off the obviously demanding task of driving a car....

It's a ridiculous idea and I don't support it for one bit. For the record I'm a non-smoker, but I am mega fed up of the all this H&S crap that do-gooders are so incessant of implementing on our daily lives.

I'm not necessarily for the idea. But if you're not allowed to use your mobile whilst driving, you shouldn't be allowed to smoke either, in my opinion. I think they're equally as bad as each other.

I used to smoke, and using a phone takes way more attention than smoking, smoking you do without thinking about, so comparing it to using your mobile is not relevent in my opinion.

Mobile phones are far worse. For starters you are only using 1 hand to control the vehicle. With smoking yes you may not have quite the same grip on the steering wheel but it's no worse that eating a chocolate bar.

I'm a non smoker. Less of this mad H&S rubbish! If they are concerned about butts thrown out of Windows there is already a policy against lettering so fines can be given out.

I never said using a mobile wasn't bad. I think it's absolutely right that it's illegal.

The act of smoking still takes attention away from driving. What happens when someone drops a fag in their lap? Or can't find their lighter or fags?

In 10 years of smoking behind the wheel that wasn't an issue for me, smoking is second nature, you don't have to think about it, so it doesn't take attention away.

It's all a load of crap!!!! If people (I'll say people not to implicate myself in this) can negotiate a roundabout whilst eating a packet of Maltesers, then I'm sure smoking whilst at the wheel is not an issue!!

I'm a non-smoker, If a ban was issued only to protect the interior of a modified car, then I may actually agree to it but to say it distracts from driving? I'm sure needing a ciggy and not being able to have one would be much more or a mental distraction.

If it is illegal to use a mobile whilst driving an automatic car as it takes your hands from the steering wheel, then changing gear should also be banned as using a clutch and changing gear is probably a larger distraction

IT'S ALL A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mobile phones were banned because there were actual accident reports that proved it was more dangerous. I have not seen any accident reports pointing the finger at cigarettes? Perhaps its harder to prove..

How about ciggy burns in drivers seats- how do these happen? having a cherry burning away in 'that' area must be distracting ..
