Road user education is the key to safety on the roads, not cameras everywhere & inappropriate speed limits as in the UK. How making the island's roads safer with a mandatory IAM test & then mandatory refresher tests every 5 years?

A full IAM course taken in your own car costs £85 ( a bit less for under 25's)
Well worth it as it costs less than a couple of tanks full of fuel and in the latest figures I saw --people that have passed an IAM test are 70% less likely to be involved in an accident .
How about buying your partner or friend a course as a Christmas present. It might turn out to be the best pressie they have ever had . :D

Will be glad to see you there. :D No reason you cant start the course if you are still on R plates as long as you have a few lessons when you're not restricted to 50mph and of course the test has to be "unrestricted".

ooo question - in the test are you allowed to go an unlimited top speed as long as it is deemed safe driving by the examiner at the time? :P
    Maybe it's because i'm a Douglaser
    That i love Douglas so

When we started about 3 years ago it was felt that the Island was about to introduce a national speed limit and so we agreed that 60 on main roads and 70 on the mountain road would be about right. Anyway this didn't happen and so there is a "bit more flexibility" now in speed issues.
However the test is carried out by a Police Class 1 driver and he would need to be sure you are in 100% control of your car at all times. So 140 down from the Creg might well be an issue for discussion :D

why is 140 down the creg a issue? some of us purchase a vehicle that can cope with this with easy and make it safe to do this speed like a motor mike R1 or R6 are capable of this and i see this alot on the moutain but we dont here anyone complaining about them buit if a car does it then big nono. long as the driver and vehicle if capable of this whats the problem? long as you take the precautions needed and think about hidden entrances etc etc and think ahead then no problem.

Yes. You book it through the IAM website and the paperwork is sent to the local IAM group who then contact you and arrange the course on Island.
