Does anybody know anywhere that fixes outboard engines other than the following? -

    Mjs
    Eddie Alan
Nick Bridge - Glen Maye (Yamaha dealer)

I have a 40hp 4 stroke Yamaha and it has a miss fire at 2200/2300 revs. Runs fine throughout the rev range other than that. The Yam dealer had it for a while, charges me a fortune and didn't fix it! So I'm looking for somebody else to fix it. I'm not bothered about the price, I just need it done.

    Cheers

Only thing I could suggest is going to a car garage and asking them if either they can or if they know anyone who specialises in it!

Or maybe even a Bike garage like EvoMoto or Slick, I wouldn't think the 4strokes are that different between bike and boat.

Am surprised Nick couldn't help - he's been fantastic and a super font of tech info when I've used him before, and was cheap too. Weird.

I was going to suggest him when I saw the thread but from what you've said that's no use.
Not sure sorry mate but good luck.

If it's a missfire is it worth trying Simms or whatever they're called now???!

Yeah, I was suprised that Nick couldn't help considering he was the Yam dealer and everybody thinks he is some form of god lol

He kept telling me it was a tiny problem and nothing to worry about, but still he couldn't fix it!! Very strange. He trades engines in, so I said, if there is nothing wrong with it, give me a good trade in price, which he did, so I am getting a brand new 2011 engine next week : - )

I've dealt with a good few local boat places (but certainly not all) over the last 10 years or so that I've had boats and he's the only one that I've actually enjoyed dealing with. I've heard that Mike at MJS is good too but not used him.

He's been cheap (comparatively) to deal with so I've used him to do work for me a few times now. Good that you've got it sorted anyway.
I used to do some maintenance on my old 2 smoke outboard but like you say the modern 4 strokes need a bit more familiarity.

I suppose with a fault like that he can sit and figure it out in his own time as he sees fit, and there's no cost as such for him trying to chase down some annoying gremlin, that would cost loads to charge someone out for. Kinda makes sense.

He's offered me good trade in money on my 4 stroke 50 before, and it's tempting as I'm sure my Teal would LOVE to have a nice big 80 or 100 (with a bit of transom work), but no way I can afford to sadly. :(

Haha, I was the same. I thought my load master would love a 50 or 60, but 40 is enough for it lol - good for 30 knots on a very flat day and cheap as chips to run! : - )
