    I'll have a look when I'm up garage tomorrow, will also see if it supports the more elderly mini.

    I just went for the software registration of $99 (http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCDSLiteReg.html). The OBD2 cable is a generic usb one I got a while back and luckily it works. Depending on how things go, I might buy one of the proper ross-tech cables in the future.

    :shock: All I have to do is short the service connector (paperclip), and move the ignition to position two (one step away from starting the car). The dash lights come on and anything with an error (TCS, ABS, 4WS, ECL etc) flash up indicating a fault number; long flash = 10s, short flash = 1s so two long flashes and and a short one = error 21.

    Free, takes 5 minutes and it clears the codes.

    If only VAG cars were that simple, the closest you'll get to this is reset the service reminder.... and thats a bit of a fiddle.

    Sooooo, looks like I've just bought a Sykes Pickavant code reader for the Mini, comes with a few other pods too:

    ACR systems tester 30055000 (main handheld unit)
    Connection leads as follows;
    30211600 (Rover Mini)
    302118 (GM)
    30211500 (GM)
    30213000 (Ford)
    30212300 (VAG)
    30011700

    Pods as follows;
    VAG (1V2) 30059900
    Rover (1) 300565
    Rover (2) 300567
    GM (1V2) 300590
    GM (2V2) 300593
    Ford (OBDII) 300597

    Looks like I've got some reading up to do.....

    Tree do you still have access to fault code reader, got a car with a mysterious engine warning light (checked oil 'n water!), i'm placing bets on either coil pack or lamda sensor, but could be any sensor so could do with knowing for sure before I start chucking money at it.
