That needs to happen ASAP, i've gone to see a few cheap cars recently between £100-£500, most of these people seem to think the numberplate is worth more than the car, infact I had to argue the point on the one i've just bought as they wanted to keep the plate for no other reason than sell it as the government said it was worth £1000!. I said keep the plate all you like, but i'm not buying another!

The next big cost is changing the log book over, its hardly encouraging, previously £6, its now £10, same system, same paperwork, just £4 more per transaction, adds up alot when you go through 7-8 cars in a year......

    From the new VL form

    Duty Payable
CO2 only applies to B category vehicles ie cars, small vans and small motorhomes
All other vehicle duty is based on CC or weight depending on the category.
Vehicles registered in Isle of Man after 1 April 2010.
Vehicles previously registered outside of the Isle of Man before 1 April 2008 will be given the
    lowest
duty based on either CC or CO2.
Vehicles previously registered outside of the Isle of Man after 1 April 2008 will continue to be
    charged
duty based on CO2 emissions if shown on vehicle registration certificate otherwise it will be
    based on CC.
All Vehicles first registered anywhere after 1 April 2010 will continue to be charged duty based
    on
CO2 emissions if shown on vehicle registration certificate otherwise it will be based on CC
Vehicles registered in the IOM before October 2008 – will continue to be charged duty based on CC as
    CO2
emissions data was not collected at registration.

When i brought my bmw over in 2010 they couldnt tax it on emissions as there was no co2 data on the uk logbook.

So if your car has been imported to the iom since the co2 crap came in then you will be done on emissions unless there is no data available then it will be on cc.

Thats how i get it anyway :)

Yeah usually post 2001 cars have emissions data on the log book. If there is no emissions data avaliable when the car is imported it will go on cc as said above.

unless it's first registered elsewhere before 1 april 2008 in which case it will be on the cheaper of CC or CO2?

Vehicles previously registered outside of the Isle of Man before 1 April 2008 will be given the
lowest duty based on either CC or CO2.
