I need to downgrade my car to save money etc, and just about to start a family. Currently have a 2005 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec S TDCI. Am just looking for suggestions on how best to approach this, where to get best deals etc . Gutted I need to get rid.

Do you owe any money on the mondeo? What I mean by this is that before you downsize, make sure it really will cost less as my brother did this a few years ago and when we worked it out later he hadn't saved any money at all. All he was looking at was the insurance and mpg/fuel cost.

Seems a shame to let someone else get the use out of them then!
Seriously though, if it doesn't owe you anything then its insurance, fuel, depreciation, servicing, costs that you need to compare. If you've just got new tyres and brakes, they should last a couple of years. Its a diesel so at least it should be good on fuel.

If anyone would consider swapping a focus 2005-6 at least Zetec 1.4 / 1.6 would be good

I can't see you getting any more mpg out of a 1.6 focus tbh, not sure about insurance costs. My brother in law has a 2005 focus 1.6 lx that he bought recently for 6k and i know he wanted another diesel car so maybe up for swapping if your interested?
