£80 is just about affordable once in a while. But when you add in all the fuel you use, rapid wear of brakes etc and things breaking potentially it can be an expensive business.
Gaz - I know what you're saying mate. I think we have two different perspectives on the same thing that's all. I agree that it's possible if you're really careful to get down an icy hill in one piece but once you begin sliding it's out of your hands. Physics will decide what's going to happen!
Im not loaded. W124,S124 & C124's where built to last 500k miles. But many have lasted much longer. i read something about a cabby in portugal 2 million + Honestly treating her to fully synthetic oil...(FSH)... & high quality Fuel, theres not much that goes wrong with the W124's.

In winter, road surfaces are frequently covered by frost and ice, but often not uniformly. Isolated patches and certain gradients will remain icy when the other parts have thawed. The good driver will therefore be on the lookout for these areas. If you drive too fast on a slippery or wet road surface your tyre grip will be substantially reduced and the risk of skidding increased. Remember - it is better to arrive a little later than not at all!

Ive heard this story however it didnt tell you that the guy had 3 engines he was using and was swaping them round while ther others were beaing rebuilt. Still a testimony to Merc build quality tho

Maybe so, but treating a W124 well, will make them last forever.

I hate thrashing my car! I like a nice countryside blast though. My mums old pug 406 2.2 HDi gearbox went just under 50k miles, i have seen enough so bye bye to the french for a car. I wouldn't mind having a 106 Gti though
