Nearly 1 Million 'Homepage' visits! This counter only records actual 'homepage' visits (from viewing the homepage) - 'site' visits of course is much higher as many members come to the forum directly & not via the homepage.

A huge amount of that will be bot traffic.
Still good stuff though!

Nope, The counter only records actual 'visits' from people, it is over the last 5 years though. We get around 100,000 'bot' hits per day!

Thats a shame, we gave the 1,000000th visitor £100 - better luck on the 2,000000 visit though.

Call me a skeptic but .... 1m visits over 5 years is 550 visits every single day (rounded a little). There are currently 1,300 members in total, now, not to mention the earlier years when numbers would have been a lot lower. In the last 24 hours, of these 1,300 members, 61 have been active. so even by these very simple maths, the 61 active members must have each visited 9 times each today and every single day for 5 solid years. And that ignores the fact that a lot never even use the homepage. In my opinion, genuine guests can only account for so much traffic ... and not enough to account for the stats above A LOT simply must be artificial hits and/or spam. Ok it's probably not bot traffic crawling and indexing the site, you sound quite confident of that .... but it's not the members or genuine 'guests' Sorry, I just like stats

It does not just count 'unique' visits though- so if the same person visits it 10 times in the same day (or even refreshes the screen) it increments. The first 3 years was our busiest, (remember the forum was copied over from IOMcars) XLR8 launched with 150 members. The last 2 years have been quieter, The car scene has slowed down too though (fuel prices, recession etc) & we have not been out promoting with flyers etc...
The hit counter is consistent with my hosting stats (currently 200-400 visits per day & circa 40-50k bot hits) - No stats are ever 100% acurate though & they can have up to a 30% margin of error either way (It could be hidden bots, or different scripts running etc).... We are still no'1 for 'xlr8' google search (sometimes flickers with xlr8r.com) which is pretty impressive as the term 'xlr8' is very generic.
