Right then, as if I don't have enough on my plate as it is with the house and the Escort I've bought another project, the Green Mk1 GTI that's been advertised on Manxads for months (probably for a good reason too).

Anyway, pics below. No idea where I'm going to go with this yet. First thing's first I think is to take the Bike carbs off and return it back to Injection then start going through it with a fine tooth comb. Only bought this for a bit of fun really, knowing me I've bought another lemon thanks partially to an awesome party the night before and the resulting hangover when I viewed/picked it up :drunken:

There's plenty of jobs to do on it from the couple of times I've looked over it in the dark. I took off the bike carbs & manifold tonight, hopefully they're off to a new home in Cyprus tomorrow and then I can replace it all with a standalone injection/ecu set up. Once that arrives I've got a nest of wiring to sort out, most of it's going to end up either redundant and chopped out or replaced with new, the lights will certainly need a new circuit putting in.

Bodywork seems to be pretty much there, couple of rusty bits that I've spotted so far but hopefully I won't find too much once I see it in the light properly on Saturday. The interior seems to be held together with wood screws, the two passenger side seats are from an Astra GTE (I think) and selecting gear is like stirring a bowl of porridge. No idea what's going on with that volt gauge in the drivers side vent either.... Oh, and the ceiling is plyboarded too, no headlining up there!

Watching this with interest, really liked the potential of this car but would've been wasted in my hands!

So, my bits have arrived and I've done a touch more today.

Little box of goodies tot he left of the car, this little lot cost me the best part of ÂŁ400. Was hoping I'd get a decent ebay bargain....didn't happen :( Also, no idea what the checker plate is hiding on the back of the car, but's it's coming off. Looks horrid and should only be found on 4x4's.

So yeah, bike carbs are off and I've obviously done the easy bit of bolting things up. I like bolting things up, it's easy. Makes you feel many too. Obviously I haven't removed the fuel pressure regulator that's on there but it's not high on the list yet, just waiting for the replacement fuel pump set up to swap over from the current low pressure carb set-up before I faff around with that.

Which leads me to the next part, the headache stage. It's no secret that I hate wiring, infact despise it would be a more accurate term. My greatest success to wiring is managing to wire up a electric mirror plug from a Scenic onto a Clio and then for it to actually work. Well, today I think I've spent about 3 or 4 hours just staring at the damn things. I've got a loom that came with the Megasquirt ECU that came off a Corrado with the same engine (ABF), it's all labelled up but I've no idea what I should be removing from the existing loom or even if I should be.... Any auto-sparks here work for biscuits and tea?? My view for most of the afternoon...

    To be continued. Hopefully. Maybe.
