so had a mini scare yesterday. went to drive to work and couldnt select a gear to save my life so had to coast down the hill before i could select 1st and when pulling away from lights the clutch didnt feel right. instantly panicing and fearing the worst I began looking at replacement clutches.

Few peeps on the rs owners club forum gave me a few other things that could be causing the problem. Took the car down to the ford dealership for them to check and was told it was going to need a new clutch, the labour being around £390 if I were to supply the clutch. Nightmare as would probs mean having to cancel my trip to compete at the TKM festival in a fortnight.

Had a few minutes before my fitness training yesterday so thought i'd check the fluid resevoir (which the garage had said was fine), took the cap off, jiggled it round to see the level was ok and put it back on. Went to drive home after and it's absolutely fine and back to how it was :hello1: :occasion7: words can't describe how happy I was but have to thank the nerds on rsoc

However it has meant that I'm going to get the clutch replaced as soon as I can with an uprated item that is more durable, cheaper than the ford oe part AND capable of handling more power

Hoping to get my snowfoam lance ordered next week and my friend's bought a da polisher so if we get some good weather this month should see a full detail and hopefully get the lil dent sorted

Just something to try.......occasionally I found the biting point a little low in the clutch pedal travel. Usually early in the morning, no idea why.....perhaps the spring in the clutch pedal didn't have the same return as in 2004.

I found that if you gently lift the clutch pedal a little higher with your left foot (by hooking it under), you got a more comfortable biting point and a nicer/longer pedal travel. I only needed to do it once each day.

I wouldn't get the clutch changed until you get slippage and that shouldn't happen for a long while. You'll know when it does arrive though.......my Evo gave me nothing but terminal clutch slippage until it was changed and I'm still waiting for the 500 running in miles to be complete.

That seems to happen to a few of the guys on focusstoc.com. Here are the results of a quick search for 'dropping clutch'.

From what I have seen on there Ford cant fix it even after changing pedal boxes, clutches, flywheels etc etc

so taxed my car for another year (will post pics later)

booked in with the dent devil next week to get rid of the dent in the drivers door :thumbleft:

also going to order a snowfoam lance and taking it down to a mates for full clay and machine polish hopefully. gonna have magpies trying to pick it up when im done.

then the only thing needs doing to the body is sorting out the few tiny stone chips. can anybody reccommend anywhere? will probs get quotes from azzy and david anderson as his work looks amazing. is there still that chips away fella over here?

have to say dent devil did an amazing job. really glad as wasnt too keen on several bodyshops just wanting to put a load of filler in the door :pukeright:

Also got the car booked in for a service and cambelt change at Demon Performance (an RS specialist in the UK).

Then I'll be looking to get the stone chips sorted hopefully before xmas :occasion9:

You don't need a cambelt change! I got it done last year. There should be a Reynolds & Turner invoice in the history.

There should definitely be a Reynolds & Turner invoice for the work. If I remember rightly a power steering pipe was replaced at the same time.

I've driven a Focus RS with a K&N Gen 2 and it was superb. Great noise and response. Sounds like a dump valve for some strange reason when you change gear.....

if im right, they have a dump valve, just a recirc one, so rather than venting to atmosphere, the vent back into the intake just after the MAF, so with a K&N more noise can get out vs the standard airbox. so it is dump valve noise you are hearing.... i think

so took the car to Demon Performance Centre at the weekend who are regarded as THE mk1 frs specialist in the UK. (people even bring cars over from europe to go there)

was blown away by the place and pete himself. 3 customers mk1s parked outside awaiting work (1 of which he informed me was an absolute heap lol),
this, a well known car is mk1 frs scene. silly quick toy im told
    Image
and petes track car due at spa this weekend showing off the manifold im getting for mine
    [img]http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j142/series1rscars/continued/rexrs009.jpg[/img

the gf was happy as she watched a dvd upstairs and had a cup of tea made for her.

Full service and upgrading to a performance panel filter was £178 all in which I was mega happy about.

Pete showed me round the car for things to keep an eye on and highlighted a few niggles i need to get sorted

    1. Rear Trailing arm bushes are shot so I'm getting some PowerFlex items ordered asap
    2. The de-cat was not fitted properly so isnt actually attached to the supporting bracket. An easy fix so getting this adjusted asap
    3. One of the metal water hoses is going to need replacing fairly soon so seems like a reasonable excuse to get samco silicone hoses :D
    4. A few other little niggles that aren't major but I want to get sorted so I know the car is mint. The most important being a remap as after checking the car out, i was told the map the car currently has isnt ideal. I think the car drives and feels great but when you hear the phrase 'potential timebomb, Id rather get a custom revo map lol
